Commitment to Teaching
Wealthrise firmly believes that knowledge serves as the foundation for smart investing. Without knowledge of how financial markets work and a history of market performance, investors are more likely to be misled and eventually punished by their investing mistakes.
Through the Fund Investor's Schoolhouse, a non-profit started by Richard Loth, Shelley volunteers as a teacher on a weekly basis where she instructs individuals on investing basics and how to use the free Morningstar database through the public library system to enhance their investing knowledge.
More people invest in mutual funds than any other investment product. While mutual funds are popular and relatively simple, many individual investors lack the financial know-how, are time-challenged, and suffer from information overload. As a consequence, numerous academic and professional studies show, unfortunately, that the average investor has a relatively low level of investment literacy and tends to substantially lag overall market return.
